Blue Heron Cross Stitch Kit: Chesapeake Bay Treasures Series
This is the second pattern created for the Chesapeake Bay Treasures Series, Blue Heron. This listing is for one counted cross stitch kit. The design incorporates a blue heron bird, a Maryland blue crab, and many geometric elements.
This counted cross stitch kit includes:
- 18 count hand-dyed Aida fabric dyed by Ardith Design
- size 26 tapestry needle
- 100% cotton backing fabric
- 3 yard skein of six-stranded blue silk floss by Silks4U
- silver colored fish charm and bulb safety pin
- a unique up cycled cloth fabric patch hand stamped and hand dyed by Ardith Design
- The physical copy of the chart lovingly packaged in a clear 6 x 9 inch poly pattern bag.
This kit utilizes a different blue colored silk floss than the first in the series. This floss is blue with hints of variegated gray. I dyed the Aida cloth to mimic the look of the marshes and low tidal areas of the Chesapeake Bay. The fish charm included has a story to tell. The charm reminds me that every year I get a heron visiting my tiny backyard pond. Inside the pond are several goldfish that we inherited when we moved into our house. Each year the heron stops by for a quick "lunch" and winds up snatching up at least half a dozen of my fish. When he raises his wings to fly off (most likely after my pugs start barking), he looks so grand and majestic. He is a winged visitor that I love to see, but he sure knows how to leave a lasting impression via disappearing goldfish. The small fabric patch is unique. I hand dyed and stamped each one. They are perfectly-imperfect fabric swatches and are my contribution to sustainable stitching. The vintage cotton fabric was sourced in Maryland. I hand tore the pieces instead of cutting them out with scissors. They convey the importance of preserving and protecting the Chesapeake Bay by reusing textiles that would otherwise be destined for the landfill.
The model is stitched on 18 count Aida with one strand of silk floss over one Aida square. 60 stitches x 61 stitches. Thank you Debra M. for stitching the model!
Please note: This is the full kit, but you will need a few additional supplies to complete this project including pillow stuffing and optional Aleene's tacky glue to attach the fabric patch (if you choose not to hand stitch it in place).
